In accordance with the relevant provisions in the Management Regulations on the Recall of Defective Vehicle Products, recently, Daimler AG submitted a recall report to State General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) of the People’s Republic of China, in which it expressed that it will recall the imported UNIMOG U400, U3000, U4000 and U5000 manufactured respectively from November 9, 2007 to April 26, 2011. According to Daimler AG, a total of 67 chassis, which were sold to the end customers and refitted by the body builder Shengli Oilfield Freet Petroleum Equipment Company Co., Ltd., Baoding Hongye Petroleum Prospecting Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Baoding Beiao Special Vehicle Manufacturing Co., Ltd., in China market as their product, in the Chinese market are affected. The known customers will be effectively notified for the recall from July 15, 2011 by direct mail. This is a voluntary recall action Daimler AG executed in the China market. During the course of internal investigations, Daimler AG became aware that through a combination of various circumstances, e.g. in extremely cold outside temperatures, the electric heater unit of the charge air preheating system could possibly got overheated in the vehicles equipped with an electric charge air preheating system. The grid heater is directly connected to steady plus of the battery causing a very low continuously current flow. In some rare cases, this very low currency may lead over a long time period running to an internal damage of the metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET). In the worst case situation, this internal damage may result in persisting switched-on mode of MOSFET; consequently, the grid heater will run continuously and this may result in overheating of grid heater in extreme cases, whereby a vehicle fire cannot be completely excluded. No reports about related accidents and casualties have been received in worldwide. As a precautionary measure, the company will conduct a voluntary recall, and the grid heater will be actuated in a different manner. An additional relay will be installed which will only connect the grid heater to steady plus of the battery in the case of an activation of the grid heater, which is same as the actuation principle of the grid heater in current series production，and this will remediate the potential risk of overheating in grid heater. The relevant known customers will be informed starting July 15, 2011 to contact the authorized Mercedes-Benz truck service centre nearest to them for the corresponding free repair. At the same time, the concerned vehicle owners can also call service hotline: 400-650-1516, available on 9:00 AM -- 17:00 PM, from Monday to Friday.
