The Mercedes-Benz SUV family, the richest product line in the segment, delivered nearly 25,780 units in the first 11 months with a growth of 83% year-on-year. The top-selling SUV, the GLK once again boosted sales with the delivery of over 10,905 units from January to November, a 175% increase over the same period last year. Meanwhile, the R-Class also posted an impressive sales performance, selling almost 5,800 units so far this year, confirming China as its biggest global market.
November was another excellent month for the Mercedes-Benz sports car family, with sales of over 6,870 units this year, a growth of 110%. The Mercedes-Benz CLS proved its unparalleled popularity in China through total sales close to 2,630 units for the year, representing a year-on-year growth of 189%. This was further underlined by receiving the "Best Model in the Luxury Segment" award by the German trade journal, Auto Zeitung. The SLK roadster also helped drive the success of the sports car family with deliveries of over 1,705 units during the first 11 months, a 59% growth compared to the same period last year.
Mercedes-Benz's luxury sports tourer, the B-Class proved its ever-increasing popularity in the market with a high growth rate of 162% in the first 11 months, delivering a total of 10,540 vehicles. Likewise, the C-Class Estate, China's first luxury station wagon continued be well-accepted by customers who desire a spacious, comfortable, and versatile luxury car. The A-Class, Mercedes-Benz's most recent addition to its lineup, shows huge market potential, having already received impressive purchase orders from the market since it offers safety, practicality and a relaxed driving experience. Another member of the Young Mercedes family, smart, grew 148% year-on-year in the first 11 months. With six new models, the recent launched smart fortwo 2011 edition gives Chinese customers a greater array of choice in the compact car segment.
