Beijing, June 8, 2010 – Mercedes-Benz enjoyed another successful month in Mainland China, selling nearly 11,450 units of Mercedes-Benz, smart, AMG and Maybach in May to achieve a sales growth of 118% year-on-year. Notably, several models witnessed their best monthly sales so far in 2010, further contributing to total sales of nearly 46,100 units, 111% year-on-year growth in the first five months. With such an impressive market performance, Mercedes-Benz once again demonstrates the luxury automaker's ever-increasing success in the China market.
"For the second consecutive month, we have delivered more than 10,000 units. This impressive sales momentum is driven by our enriched product lineup as well as our highly motivated and professional dealer network." said Klaus Maier, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz (China) Ltd.
As the main car of choice among China's top-elites, the S-Class has always played a key role in the success of Mercedes-Benz. In May, the flagship model witnessed its best-selling month of the year with total deliveries of more than 2,150 units to represent a growth of 71% over the same period last year. To date, Mercedes-Benz has delivered nearly 7,000 units of the S-Class, once again consolidating China as its largest market in the world.
This month also proved to be another success story for the all-new E-Class, which sold nearly 3,210 units in May to make up almost one-third of the automaker's sales for the month, thus retaining its position as Mercedes-Benz's top-selling model. Moreover, with its total sales amounting to nearly 13,000 units for the first five months of the year, the "World's Best Business Sedan" continues to demonstrate its relentless appeal to Chinese business elites.
