As a logical development of the standard-fitted cruise control system with SPEEDTRONIC variable speed limiter, DISTRONIC is the world's first intelligent cruise control system. Helping you maintain a set distance from the vehicle in front, DISTRONIC provides an extra safety feature when the car is travelling between 30km/h and 180km/h. Mounted in the radiator grille, this feature uses a radar sensor to determine when the brake should be activated to maintain a safe following distance. It also allows the car to accelerate once the distance increases again, all the while showing both vehicles and the distance between them in the instrument cluster display. An additional acoustic signal is emitted if heavy braking is required.
