| Environmental protection is one of Mercedes-Benz's central corporate goals, an area in which we have continued to improve our performance as an integral part of our activities.
Mercedes-Benz is undertaking great efforts in order to design its products and its production processes in an even more environmentally friendly manner.
Mercedes-Benz's goal of maximum product quality includes compliance with stringent environmental standards and careful treatment of the natural foundations of life. Accordingly, our approach to environmentally acceptable product design requires careful consideration of the entire product life cycle, from design, production and use to disposal or recycling.
We face the environmental challenges of the future by working continuously to improve the environmental performance of our products and operations.
Therefore, Mercedes-Benz relies heavily on environmental friendly material. The Mercedes-Benz SClass, for example, uses 32 natural fibre/plastic components weighing a total of 24.6 kilograms/54 pounds.
In addition to the natural fibres flax, sisal, hemp wood, coconut fibre and cotton, Mercedes-Benz vehicles also make use of other natural substances such as leather and natural rubber.
To produce door trims made of a compound of flax and sisal, for example, Mercedes-Benz suppliers process more than 1,100 tons of natural fibres each year.
All the above-mentioned renewable raw materials are crucial to help protect our environment. This is why many components and parts inside our vehicles are made of natural materials.
Mercedes-Benz continues to develop products which fulfil our objectives to be environmentally friendly as well as bringing comfort and safety to our customers. |
